In Hidden Love, Wooeun explores the quiet strength of emotion that often resists easy expression. The character 愛 (love) appears scattered—fractured in form—yet its heart remains centered and intact. This visual contradiction mirrors the emotional complexity of love: difficult to articulate, vulnerable to distortion, and yet unwavering at its core.
By blending techniques and expressions that evoke both Eastern and Western aesthetics, Wooeun creates deliberate confusion, inviting the viewer to navigate multiple visual and cultural registers. The result is a tender meditation on fear, courage, and the tension between concealment and clarity.
Love, the artist suggests, is rarely simple. Often, fear arrives before joy—fear of not being understood, of being rejected, or of being too much. And yet we still try to share it. This work honors that effort: the unspoken, imperfect, but persistent desire to connect.
Hidden Love is a quiet reminder that even when love is hidden, it is no less real.

I wanted to create confusion in the work by using techniques and expressions that seem to be both Eastern and Western. The title of the work is Hidden Love.
The word 愛, which means love, is scattered, but the heart is firmly established.
It is difficult to convey love in simple words and letters. Fear often comes to mind before conveying it in any form. However, I think that the heart is solid and upright, and I would like to express love further. I have tried to capture such a heart in a painting.
It is never easy to convey the emotion of love. Sometimes, when we try to express our love, fear comes before joy, and we wonder if our words will reach the right people, if they will be distorted, or if they will be accepted. But we try anyway, because love is stronger than fear.
We hope it resonates with you, too, and reminds you of the true nature of love.
